On August 31, 1850, in Council Bluffs, Clay County, Iowa, a sixth child was born to Joseph Harrison Tippets and Amanda Malvina Perry. He was given the name, Brigham Lewis Tippets.
His parents were early converts to the Latter Day Saint church, and when Brigham was three months old they became anxious to join the Saints in Utah. They migrated there successfuly and settled in BrighamCity.
